Ielts Speaking part 1 Roads Streets Samples by cô Dương Ielts

Are the roads in your area crowded?

  • Absolutely. Hanoi is the second largest city of Vietnam so streets in my area are busy throughout the day. Particularly during rush hours, most of them are packed with vehicles and people might get stuck in traffic jams for hours.

Is it easy to walk across the streets in your area?

  • I wouldn’t say so. Though there are many pedestrian crossings, crossing a crowded street in Hanoi is a daunting task and it takes a lot of courage and concentration to do so because drivers don't always slow down for you or obey the rules.

Do you think the roads in your area are good?

  • Yes. Most of them are in good condition I’d say. Avenues in the city centre often have a smooth surface and spacious lanes. However, other streets in the outskirts or small alleys might not be as clean, modern or well-maintained  as them. They may be dirty, rough and even have a lot of potholes, which might lead to serious accidents.

Do you think they need improvement?

  • I do think so. Though there are a lot of overpasses, underpasses , traffic lights and signs to regulate  the traffic, most streets are still congested during peak hours when people are rushing to work or coming back home after work. I think many streets need to be enlarged and new ones should be constructed to alleviate congestion. Moreover, separate bicycle lanes should also be added to encourage sustainable modes of transport.
